I am a self-admitted, and independently verified, stickler for spelling, grammar, and the English language. I am aware of encountering problems like those in this cartoon on an almost daily basis.
Mistakes on billboards and general signage tend to take the form of errors in grammar. Meanwhile, mistakes on restaurant menus are more often related to simple typos.
The engagement of a good editor, or even a basic spell check, could save businesses much embarrassment.
In my personal life, I have learned to, based on the company I keep, withhold any comments on the mistakes I spot. But it is paying attention to those very things that have aided me in my professional career.
